Beaver Creek, CO   March 2007 (Spring Break)

Adam and Brandon left for a week in Lake Tahoe with their dad and enjoyed skiing at Heavenly. Meanwhile, the rest of us decided to head out to Beaver Creek which is about 10 miles from Vail on I-70.  The temperature was unseasonably warm, therefore the mountain had melted and froze so many times that we were left with ice to ski on, which was not fun at all.  Lesson learned: never go to Colorado unless they have fresh snowfall and the temps are COLD!

Tommy participated in ski school and enjoyed playing in the snow for the first time ever.  He didn't much care for skiing although his instructor said he did incredibly well.  He needs some practice on stopping before we can take him on any chairs, but not bad for a "never-ever". Meemaw signed up for ski school and did well- I was very proud of her for giving it a champ's effort!  We toured Vail, Glenwood Canyon, Glenwood Springs (which Steve and I have always loved), and Aspen.  The ice sculptures in Aspen village had all melted, so I was bummed that mom couldn't see them as they're just incredible, but we loaded up on t-shirts and food instead and called it a day before driving back to Denver.

Beaver Creek is a nice ski area with loads and loads (and loads) of kids, many trails, and simply a beautiful and relaxing environment.  It is closest to a resort-style environment that I've been to in Colorado for skiing, so if you're looking for "something for everyone" this is it.  Worthy of note:  on one of our chair rides up the mountain, Steve and I were chatting with another couple who are also from Orlando and live not even 3 miles from us.  Additionally, mom chatted with another lady whose son was enrolled in her ski school with her who lives in the Metrowest community where mom currently lives.  I just love those "small world" stories!

Adam and Brandon have promised me pics from their trip, so I'm waiting on those to upload as well.  They both enjoyed their trip immensely, in spite of Adam being sun burnt pretty badly.  Their weather conditions were similar in Tahoe to Colorado, so it wasn't the best skiing; however, they had more slush which made it easier than skiing on ice. We could've saved money and skied in NC if we knew it would be like this...there's a reason we go all the way out west to ski!!  Enjoy the pics we have so far.  Not many of them when you're caught up in the moment, but there are a few cheeky ones. :)

Graphic intense-- may load slow!
